The boy woke up early this morning, not quite 5am (lucky for me he also had been asleep since 7:30pm- that's a solid 9hrs and gave me 7hrs straight sleep, heaven!). I fed him and he fell back to sleep, little snore and all. I decided that it was just to close to the time when I would need to actually get up and start my day anyway so instead of crawling back to bed I wandered downstairs. As I waited for my tea water to boil (um, is anyone else hooked on yerba mate?) I found my ipod and did a little search for what I knew had been stored on it with the best of intentions months ago, yoga pod casts.
This is something that I have been telling myself to do, get up and give yourself time in the morning, do something for yourself so you can be the best mom/wife/daughter/coworker/person you can be. Not only that but my body has been asking me to start moving on a more frequent and consistent pattern. I have been coming home from work with headaches several times a week, I am sluggish and unmotivated to do much more than plop in front of the TV in the evenings.

January Sky

So I sipped a bit of my tea and without turning on any of the lights, moved myself into the big open room downstairs. My mat is in the car and I decided to just leave it there; to get moving without it, not wanting to add any more complications or stall tactics to the picture. I tuned into a 25-30 minute practice (depending on the length of svasana I took) led by Eoin Finn. How cool is it that we have the technology to basically bring a teacher into the room with us?

Can I just say how good it feels to start my day off like this? Breathe, stretch, grow.
I am off to a fantastic start.

1,2,3,4 tell me that you love me more

Four months old....

4month chair picture

I have been writing this post in my mind for the past few days. What would sum up the completion of the third month? What things have happened, what were the firsts? The changes? The little things that I don't want to forget and I want you to know?

You are happy and silly. Just yesterday you started to crack yourself up without the help of a tickle or a tummy zerbert. Just hanging out on the floor under the arch- who knows what was tickling your fancy, but something got you giggling. You are also finding your voice, sometimes this is not as pleasant as one would hope squeals that have me wondering if you are in pain or just learning how the different sounds that you can make. The "a-goo" sound that you have made for awhile now is still in the vocabulary, but you also blow raspberries and a funny "thhh" sound that seems to come from under your tongue. To my surprise you are a bit of rough houser and like to be wiggles and jiggled around. We celebrated your first Christmas and did our first sleep over away from home. We walked in the snow in your new Cadillac and cut down your first tree.

silly smile

Today we went to the doctor's office for your 4 month check and immunizations. You are 14.5lbs and 26 inches long. The nurse commented on your sweet chubby legs and your 'big feet'. You even had a first while we were there, she put you on your belly and you flipped over onto your back. Something I hadn't seen you do before! It is amazing how strong you have gotten. Your head no longer a bobbles like before which makes carrying you around so much easier. You still aren't sure about tummy time, but we practice just because.

Things that amuse you lately are your dogs- you love watching the crazy schnauzers and Cloe even lets you pull her beard so long as you let her lick your hands right after you spit up. When we pass a mirror you smile the biggest smile and almost seem to bat your eyelashes at the sweet reflection you see. The fish tank also fascinates you and we can go there to watch the fish swim by to calm you down if you are getting yourself in to a tizzy. You love your 'links' and also a toy that Aunt Ra got you for Christmas that is easy to hold and fun to chew on.

playing

Daycare is going well and I couldn't be happier with the place that we have chosen for you to be while we are at work. I go and visit you at lunch most days and we snuggle and you eat. Sometimes JoJo comes by and gives you an afternoon bottle. You are most often found in one of the teachers arms, getting loved on and when you are on the floor you are busy checking out the other babies in the room- definitely curious and interested in what is happening around you.

There have been a few tricky things too, you have started to get horrible gas bubbles that make you scream. You are almost inconsolable when this happens but once it passes you are back to gurgling and smiles. You have started to chomp on your hands and if Daddy-O or my hand gets too close you will pull it in for a nibble as well.

out take

Daddy-O and I are feeling much more confident with you and it feels like you have always been here. Just tonight as we were eating dinner I commented that I can't imagine having any other baby as "our baby". You seem to be just perfect for us. Thank you for being in our world little man. We love you!

The first batch of home brew was made this weekend. I will let the images do the talking from here on out, but know that it smelled so good and is such a nice way to spend a cold, January day.

aunt agnes and wishes

finished product_aunt agnes, originally uploaded by NessieNoodle.

One of my favorite holiday treats is my mom's famous "aunt agnes coffee cake" She was planning on making a loaf to send off to my grandma and I asked if she would teach me. Passing on a tradition, I thought, would be a most wonderful way to start the new year.

oh so good.

new years eve
Here's to hoping your new year if full of good food,
good people and most of all
love.
