Hi Everyone,
I took some time today to update the photos that are available over at my image kind shop. Maybe there is something over there that you will like. Go have a look if you have a minute.

I hope you have a nice weekend planned.

Heading back down

Here is to a good view and a little bit of the outdoors.

Be well,

missing the coast

025_22A_0001

It has been hot here. Not sort-of-kind-of hot, but really hot. Its the kind of hot that makes you say, "it sure feels cool out" and when you look at the thermometer it reads 82 and then you say to yourself, "yep nice and cool". I recently started to follow a few food blogs and all those pies with fresh fruit and berries seem to be mocking me. It is just ridiculous to even think of turning on the oven right now- those pie recipes will have to wait.

We did get some reprieve though over the past two nights. The skies lit up and rumbled with thunderstorms. One of my favorite things about late summer for sure are the storms- the flashes and the shaking of the atmosphere that follows. The short burst of rain not only make the sage and dust smell like the best perfume, they also make it humid in the afternoon and early mornings. Okay, so not NJ humid or tropical humid. Or even the kind of humid where I don't feel like I have to use an entire bottle of lotion when I get out of the shower just to maintain some sort of moisture in my skin, but when the humidity is more then the normal 5-10% anything feels sticky and sultry right?

Farm house on Christmas Morning

Both the heat and the "humidity" have been making me yearn for the California coast. These photos were taken almost 5 years ago with my SLR on Christmas morning. We were in a magical little town along the Mendocino/HWY 1 coast. I am really loving the feel the film is giving in these three shots, especially the top one. Makes me want to pull out my old camera again. It has been neglected for far too long.

Looking at Elk, CA
If I can't get out of the mountains, at least I can look at these pictures right?

Treat

Must get to Trader Joe's for my "smooth and mellow, decaf" asap. Daddy-O's beans are a little strong for this mama. Especially since I have been getting 2 more hours of uninterrupted sleep for the past few nights (thank you MrO, is this a fluke or for realz?).

dilemma

How do you make homemade tortilla chips without eating the bowl in one sitting, almost entirely by yourself?(ahemmm)

tortilla chip wedges
If you would like to be in the same predicament, then head down to the store and buy a pack of corn tortillas.
Heat your oven to 375 and slice up the stack of tortilla into quarters.

tortilla chip wedges

Spray a cookie sheet (or wipe down with olive oil like I did since I didn't have any spray) and lay the sliced tortillas on the sheet, they can overlap.
Spray again and maybe sprinkle some salt on top (or whatever else sounds good to top your chips with). Place pan in the heated oven and set the timer for about 5-10 minutes. After the timer goes off, check them- the kitchen should smell really good at this point.

With a pair of tongs, toss them around so that they start to get crisp on both sides. This also keeps them from sticking together too much. Set the timer again and put the pan back in the oven for another 5-10 minutes. You may want to take those that are done out of the oven a little sooner and put them in a bowl so the others can continue to crisp up without causing any of those that are not so done to burn. That and you are gonna want to eat some asap since your mouth is probably watering by now. Repeat until all chips are golden brown.

chips

While you wait for them all to be crunchy and warm, pour a tall, cold glass of home-brew and pop open a jar of salsa (slice in some avocado if you have it handy, this makes the jar salsa feel more homemade. And who doesn't like a little avocado?).

chipsandbeer

Enjoy.

PS Maybe invite someone to join you so you don't devour the entire bowl all by yourself...

PPS If you don't invite anyone over, don't blame me if you find yourself fishing around in a bowl of chip crumbs before your beer has even had to be refilled.

PPPS You have been warned.

Artsy-fartsy

paintandsupplies

Earlier this week I took one of my personal days from work (I get two a year) and spent the day elbow deep in paint. It was fantastic and just what I needed.

The class was held at a cool little shop/studio called Artistree. If you are local, they have a fun list of classes you can take. There is an amazing amount of art, most of it from local artist, as well as art/crafting supplies for sale. This store is CRAMMED full of things. Every time I turned around I saw something new.

process

Thanks so much to Nancy for having Frances at your space. And thank you Frances, for having a one day art class here in town- those 6 hours inspired me more than you know.

If you are interested, there is an additional workshop next week on the 21st, call the store for details.

Unvieling and a few truths

This week;s theme is "the unveiling" for Corner View. Conveniently, about a week ago now I was also asked by Jules to post 10 truths about myself. How nifty, I can introduce myself in words and pictures.

little me

1. I am an only child (by my mom), the baby of 5 (by my dad).

toes

2. The first time I took a yoga class I hated it. Good thing for second chances and the willingness to change my mind. I can't imagine my life without my practice.

window

3. I still own a ridiculous amount of things from my childhood. Toys, books and blankets, those in the photo above included. It baffles Daddy-O, but amazes me more considering how many times my mom and I moved while I was growing up.

little hicker

4. I love to hike/backpack/camp. The feeling of falling into your sleeping bag completely exhausted after a good day outdoors is like nothing else.

beer!

5. A cold beer on a hot day can only be made better by adding friends, chips with guac and music.

OH GOD!

6. Not until this year did I actually need to wear glasses. Who knows what I was up to in this photos- trying to look "smart" I think. Now I have two different pairs. One for while I work on the computer and one for when I drive.
bye, bye headaches. bye, bye now.

so you wann be a...

7. I attending "modeling school" during high school. I was told that I would need leg extensions if I wanted to go anywhere with it. What the? they have those? Glad it didn't work out, I am a big fan of food and I am a crab when I don't get to eat.

bffs in the bathrrom

8. I have been friends with the gal picture above since before we were born and now we have babies that are only two weeks apart who will get to have a similar experience as we did- bff's for sure.(see yesterday's post for the cute overload)

V_camera

9. I am totally guilty of having the camera stuck to my face and loosing my family/friends while out and about because of it.

silly mirror mama&baby

10. I sorta love my kid and my husband more than I ever imagined possible. seriously.

And that's the truth.

After yesterday I need to put something up here that will bring a smile to my face, and yours. If these don't make the corners of your mouth lift then you need to get your smiler checked, because it's broken.

Thank you. THANK YOU for all your sweet words and thoughts. Each and everyone of them meant a lot to me and Daddy-O. We are still heartbroken and a little out of sorts without Zucco around, I am sure it is going to take awhile. I saw someone walking there schnauzer on the way to work today and almost lost it. I know it will get easier and that the silly things he did will be there to make us smile- like birdseed eating, jumping out of moving vehicles, llama chasing, acting more like a cat then a dog by crawling under the covers and finding the perfect patch of sun to sit in- yep those are things I want to remember.

Goodbye, Zucco

Zucco died this morning or late last night some time.
We are heart broken.
Zoo
He will be dearly missed. Zucco was a sweet soul and from the moment we got him he had our hearts. We rescued Zucco. He was a skinny and sad little dog and we weren't sure if he was just neglected or if he was sick. He had been abandoned, left in a crate along the roadside in the middle of Nevada. We found him via an online pet rescue site. I immediately called the rescue shelter and told them that we had a Schnauzer, that our neighbors had schnauzers and that we had been thinking about getting another but didn't want to go thru a breeder this time. There are just too many dogs out there that need homes.
Everyone who met Zu-buddy always said he had 'old man eyes'. He did. He had these big brown eyes that seemed to be very wisdom filled. I often wondered what his life was like before we got him, we will never know. But what I do know is what his life was like while we had him....

He was a runner, boy howdy could Zucco run.
fast
When we first brought him home he would dig out of the yard at least once a week (at least). Cloe, not one to be left out of an adventure, would follow him. But, after a particularly long and scary escape he just stopped trying to get out and realized that he had a good thing going here- food, water, a bed.

The dogs got hops

Once we got him trained enough we started to take him to the leash free park near our house. He was like a flash of silver fur up there. He would be half way across the field hardly before the clasp of the leash was unhooked. He was fast and springy and could almost keep up with the whippet that was often at the park when we were.

He was a lover.
Zucco + bokeh
In the mornings I would wake up to see four little paws sticking out of the covers next to Daddy-O. He would be snuggled in and happily spooning with his buddy. Zu always loved to curl up in your lap if you would let him. He was polite about it though and would wait until he was invited. He did this funny thing where he would stare at you and kind of growl-bark at you until you told him to stay on the floor or invite him up on the couch. It was pretty funny and tripped out company when he did it. He also knew how to ask for his food, "arrr-rowrowrow", speaking like Daddy-O had taught him.
sniff sniff*100608
He was good with the baby, although recently had started to not be sure about the crawling and exuberant patting that he was getting from Mr. O, he would just hang out and let him play drums on his belly.

One of his best attributes though was that he put up with Cloe-girl and all her alpha-dog ways. He was patient and sweet. When they got going in the back yard or doing loops around the house race track style, he knew how to go just fast enough to keep her interested and playing even though he was much faster then her (such a gentleman). I will miss those crazy bark fest chases they would have around the kitchen into the living room around the front landing, into the dinning room and back into the kitchen- skidding out as they hit the linoleum floors.
short attention span theater

I am going to miss this dog. I hope we gave him a good life while he was with us But most of all I hope he didn't suffer too much yesterday before he passed. We really had no idea that he was that sick. He had been chasing birds in the back yard at noon and was gone when we got up this morning.

shake it.

(Thanks for the video Lisa!!)
Go shake your booty. It'll make you smile.

Downtown at the West Street Market on Friday night. These guys and gals were dancing and Mr O was digging on it big time.
Doesn't quite feel like Reno down there.
It's kinda hipster-ish (yeah, I just totally made that word up) and funky in the best of ways. The old brick buildings and open sky are almost my favorite part (the art, the drinks, the food, the people are all right up there).
I sorta love my town.
~~

PS I have been shooting film for the past week (including Friday night and over the fourth of july weekend) so once I get it developed and scanned I will share. Let's hope I haven't totally forgotten how to use the old Yashica!

Double Digits

10 months

Today marks the day that we are in the double digit months- 10 months have passed since our sweet Baby O joined our family. He crawled his way right thru the 9th month. Moving and exploring just about everywhere he wanted to, pulling up onto things and finding delight in outlets and cords, electronics and the dogs- oh, the poor dogs. They have been very patient and good with him. It is a hoot to see what he will go for when you let him loose on the ground-

Let's see, what else is new? After several months of doing baby signs with him he has started to use the "all done", "fan" (which can also mean light or chimes) and he is waving hello and good-bye. It is so fun to have him 'tell' us what is going on.

The month sort of flew by with visits from family and trips up to the cabin. But it has been a huge month of getting used to the mobility of a curious little boy!

The not so good parts? Mr O has a double ear infection. We didn't get a whole lot of sleep in the past couple of nights. This afternoon we did get in a nap and a dose of medicine and now are starting to feel a little bit more like ourselves, thank goodness!

Hope your weekend was filled with more good parts than bad (ours really was fun filled, although seeing your baby feel icky is never a good time).
