Let the birthday weekend begin!

Last night we went to sushi last night for Daddy-O's birthday (Hiroba Sushi). Our chief, Harrison, made us this special roll. When I asked him what he called it, he asked me what my name was. Then told me that it was the "Vanessa Roll".  tee hee

Dinner was SO good and we had a fantastic time out on our date. (Thanks Jojo and Kate for watching the kids!) After sushi we went downtown and played darts at a local Irish pub, Ceol.  I got my butt kicked, but I didn't do too badly considering I haven't ever really played darts before...good times.

57:365, birthday prep

This morning I got up and got busy making a Chocolate Stout Cake and some yellow cake cupcakes for tonight's dinner. I am a little disapointed in the cupcakes. I got the mix at Trader Joe's and I don't really like the taste and the 'muffin top' of almost all of them crumbled on me. I won't be back for that again. Oh well, enough chocolate frosting can fix anything, right?

short and the long of it

Why does it always seem that the short work week is the longest?
It has sort of been a blur around here and I have barely been able to keep up with my project, but I have. Although, the images aren't the best this week, it is what it is and I am still shooting and trying to capture the day in a photo.

53:365, the parking lot

Tuesday I ended up with a whopper of a headache that had me down and out at just about 8pm for bed. Thank goodness for Daddy-O stepping up to the plate and taking care of dinner and bedtime on his own.

54:365, sketti

Wednesday I hit the gym for the first time in months. The 80 year old gym rats put me to shame during the "Get Ripped" class, but now I have something to aspire towards. Though I do hope to have something else to do besides hang out at the gym when I am 80, like maybe hang out on a tropical island and sip a drink with an umbrella in it.
I finished off the day having dinner with my favorite redheaded twins and their mama. Which is always leaves me feeling revived beyond words. Having another mom that you can bounce ideas, problems, crafty endevors and bohemian lifestyles off of is really wonderful.

55:365, north of town

Today has been busy with meetings and a presentation (that I am not sure I really pulled off, but it's over now). It is windier than Kansas during tornado season today. You might as well call me Dorothy and slap some sparkly red shoes on my feet because, DANG, there is a storm a brewin' in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I doubt I will get so lucky as to get two Friday-snow days in a row, but a girl can dream.

I am gearing up for Daddy-O's birthday weekend, I have some fun plans in the works for celebrating him. I hope I can pull them all off!

49:365, first bite

Since we were all home today, (woot! snow day!!) at lunch we decided that Fifi should join us in the fun of actually eating.
She had been showing signs of readiness the past few weeks and the pediatrician had given us the okay well over a month ago- so we gave it a shot- the girl dug it....
stop this train, it's going to fast!

48:365, looking in and out

He begged to go outside last night after school. So I bundled him up and he ran around and kicked the snow and screamed his head off in the backyard while Clover chased him around.
He came to the back slider where Fifi and I were watching the fun and I got this goofy face.
let us in

After the kids were in bed I crept outside and set up the tripod to get a shot of our street. It was literally glowing outside with the cloud cover and the snow the city's lights had no way to escape.

47:365. winter returns

It started snowing last night after some amazing winds all day yesterday. We probably only got about 3 inches total here on the valley floor. But it is nice to have winter back.
The only bad part, this weather may have us canceling our plans for the long weekend. Camping in the rain just doesn't sound like fun, nor does driving over a snowy pass.
I have a few ideas to make it fun though here at home...

We are snuggled in and warm inside. O is clomping around downstairs, "racing cars". Which translates into lining up all his match box cars (or anything with wheels really) either in the kitchen or on the couch. And Daddy-O is watching Rockford Files. I don't get why he loves that show, but he does. Must be the cheesy 70'sness of it all.
day47alt
Here is a scene from tonight after dinner... I love watching Daddy-O play with the girl. She fell asleep right when she got home for an hour and then was all off schedule tonight for going down. She has me wondering if she isn't getting teeth or on the verge of a big milestone (sitting up maybe?).

Hope you are warm and cozy tonight.
