How do you make homemade tortilla chips without eating the bowl in one sitting, almost entirely by yourself?(ahemmm)
If you would like to be in the same predicament, then head down to the store and buy a pack of corn tortillas.
Heat your oven to 375 and slice up the stack of tortilla into quarters.
Spray a cookie sheet (or wipe down with olive oil like I did since I didn't have any spray) and lay the sliced tortillas on the sheet, they can overlap.
Spray again and maybe sprinkle some salt on top (or whatever else sounds good to top your chips with). Place pan in the heated oven and set the timer for about 5-10 minutes. After the timer goes off, check them- the kitchen should smell really good at this point.
With a pair of tongs, toss them around so that they start to get crisp on both sides. This also keeps them from sticking together too much. Set the timer again and put the pan back in the oven for another 5-10 minutes. You may want to take those that are done out of the oven a little sooner and put them in a bowl so the others can continue to crisp up without causing any of those that are not so done to burn. That and you are gonna want to eat some asap since your mouth is probably watering by now. Repeat until all chips are golden brown.
While you wait for them all to be crunchy and warm, pour a tall, cold glass of home-brew and pop open a jar of salsa (slice in some avocado if you have it handy, this makes the jar salsa feel more homemade. And who doesn't like a little avocado?).
Enjoy.
PS Maybe invite someone to join you so you don't devour the entire bowl all by yourself...
PPS If you don't invite anyone over, don't blame me if you find yourself fishing around in a bowl of chip crumbs before your beer has even had to be refilled.
PPPS You have been warned.
I really love chips like this! I'd come over and help you not eat them all.... just saying...
ReplyDeletei love this! i cannot buy bags of tortilla chips -- i can eat them all in one sitting... but if i keep tortillas in the freezer, i can make a treat any time! and not pig out! well, as long as i don't put them all in the oven...
ReplyDeleteme mouth is watering..I can understand completely why you finished the whole bowl..YUM!
ReplyDeletewarning heeded, i'm going to try it anyway !! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's impossible! Trust me... we've tried holding back! Great photos!
ReplyDeletechomp, crunch, crunch...
ReplyDeleteyou're making me hungry!
Wow! I made these last night for a batch of nachos and they were amazing. It was hard because I would make a small batch and eat half of them while the next batch was in the oven. I am super picky about my tortilla chips. Ok I'm just picky about what I put in my guacamole!
