I'm lucky. I have my mom and she is pretty darn amazing. She is not just my mama, but one of my best friends. I see or talk to her almost every day and I love that she is so close to us and my little family.
She is the best grandma there ever was. I watch her with the kids and see her silly, her youth and her super fun side. She humors them beyond belief. I think, when she was raising me, she often was worried about keeping food on the table and clothes on our backs and was sometimes more serious than she wanted to be because of that.
We didn't have a lot of money, but she made it work and to see where we are today is a testament to her hard work.. I think with my kids, there is an ease about her that she can have because she isn't stressed about those things- that and she can pass them off to us when she has had enough.
(see the picture below for what I mean when I say "enough". the antics were running high yesterday.)
But, I also have another mom. When I was a junior in high school I moved in with my dear family friends, Val and Buffalo. I lived with them for a year and they treated me as if I was there own. They put up with my 16 year old chaos and loved me no matter what I was up to or if I forgot to call to tell them where I would be hanging out that night. Val gave me a different look at things than my did and that was a pretty special gift.
Not a lot of people can say that they have multiple families like I do. I love that I have more than one woman to look up to as a mother. Each doing their motherhood thing in their own way and style. On Sunday, we celebrated with my crazy, wild and hodge podge family. As usual, we ate amazing food (and too much of it), we laughed and giggled and played. It was a perfect way to celebrate all the super fantastic women in my world.
