missing the coast

025_22A_0001

It has been hot here. Not sort-of-kind-of hot, but really hot. Its the kind of hot that makes you say, "it sure feels cool out" and when you look at the thermometer it reads 82 and then you say to yourself, "yep nice and cool". I recently started to follow a few food blogs and all those pies with fresh fruit and berries seem to be mocking me. It is just ridiculous to even think of turning on the oven right now- those pie recipes will have to wait.

We did get some reprieve though over the past two nights. The skies lit up and rumbled with thunderstorms. One of my favorite things about late summer for sure are the storms- the flashes and the shaking of the atmosphere that follows. The short burst of rain not only make the sage and dust smell like the best perfume, they also make it humid in the afternoon and early mornings. Okay, so not NJ humid or tropical humid. Or even the kind of humid where I don't feel like I have to use an entire bottle of lotion when I get out of the shower just to maintain some sort of moisture in my skin, but when the humidity is more then the normal 5-10% anything feels sticky and sultry right?

Farm house on Christmas Morning

Both the heat and the "humidity" have been making me yearn for the California coast. These photos were taken almost 5 years ago with my SLR on Christmas morning. We were in a magical little town along the Mendocino/HWY 1 coast. I am really loving the feel the film is giving in these three shots, especially the top one. Makes me want to pull out my old camera again. It has been neglected for far too long.

Looking at Elk, CA
If I can't get out of the mountains, at least I can look at these pictures right?
