put on your happy face.
Sometimes it is so much better to just shut your mouth and/or walk out of the room when you are the odd duck at the party. Otherwise things get awkward, you start doubting your values, your truths, your believes. Sometimes just putting on that happy face and knowing that in a different circle, you aren't alone in believing that a woman's body is an amazing and strong thing, that it knows just what to do with the new life it is carrying inside. That a mother's instinct is strong and that having a little compassion even if it means a little less connivance is okay. And most importantly if something feels right, if you feel it in your gut that this is the best thing for you or your family to hold your head tall (not your nose) to breathe slowly and have confidence. Otherwise it is all to easy to fall from that wall, to be a million little pieces of uncertainty and of doubt, and no one, not all the kings horses or all the kings men can put you back together again.

Well said and good for you! The hard part is knowing that moment to take that breath and step back. Here's hoping we always see it and can teach our little ones the same strength in silence.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you words, mama.
Wow, very nicely said. I feel these feelings very often as a mother.
ReplyDeleteVanessa, that was so perfect in so many ways. I have been in that place so many times before.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
I love your message, Ness. And I really like Lisa'a words.
ReplyDeleteGetting rid of the self-doubt, especially when you're always trying to be open and mindful of the world, is so hard.
I always find so much to learn from and ponder in your words.
yes, yes, yes. you are on the right track.
ReplyDelete(fairytale town! yay!)

ReplyDeleteI love this post V.
such true words
ReplyDeleteI often feel I'm the odd duck, but I doesn't bother me as much as it used to, and I don't feel the need to leave the room any longer. There are some advantages to age, I guess:)!
ReplyDeletethis is so right ON!
ReplyDeleteperfectly said, mama.

I found you through A Foothill Home Companion's tribe post.
ReplyDeleteI've had to learn to do the same. Breathe, step back, and sometimes leave the situation completely.
