365-Day11--donner lake

I love this lake.
It is home.
I learned to swim here
I ditched school to sit on it's docks.
I kissed my first real boyfriend in its water
I have jumped in naked in the late summer night
with only the glow of stars
to light my path and screams and giggles to fill my ears.
I have watched fireworks reflect on its face.
I hopped in pregnant, letting my not yet born boy
feel buoyant
The lake has a earthy wonderful smell
that laps you up
and a cold that takes your breath away
It makes you feel alive.
I love this lake.
It is home.

  6. I, too, have a very special attachment to this lake. While it is generally too cold for me to immerse myself in, I have spent countless hours walking its shores. You will often find me on the eastern end, walking the trail to China Cove. When I lived there, I walked it daily. Now that I have to drive there, it is even more special to me when I get to do it.

  7. Heaven! I love water! Not so found of swimming in lakes because I am scared of the fish, but I love sitting by them.
