What's Your Story

I could listen to stories from StoryCorps all day. Each story brings joy to my heart and tears to my eyes.

If you were to record a story for this project, what would it be?

  1. I actually don't think I could come up with enough on the spur of the moment.
I think I like blogging since it is a conscious stream that evolves. Yes, I probably forget to mention things that I wish I had, but if I were to have to come up with it for an interview, I think it would be too scattered.

Good question though, I had another set of twins that were in our grade in High School that did the StoryCorps interview, I'll have to try to track it down come to think of it.

PS. I can't pass up a good book sale.

  2. OMG. Today's was so great! After it was over, I said to my morning coffee, "that was a great StoryCorps!" I think that about most of them but am usually crying by the end of them. My hubby knows I love them and that they make me cry. He always smiles so sweetly when I say through my tears, "I love StoryCorps." I wonder if the boys will notice that mommy cries a little every Friday morning. ;)

Mine would be about my mom. I'm not sure what about, I guess I'd just let it happen in the SC booth. Right now I think it would be about how empowered I feel as a mother by the example she's set for me. She's always been very honest with me about life and didn't spare me on the difficulties of becoming a mother. I'm grateful for that because during the early sleepless frustrations of being a mom of preemie twins I knew what I was going through was normal and she was always available to calm my nerves. I'm also grateful that she's here to share all the firsts with me (she'll be nine years out of breast cancer this Halloween). We both cried the other night when Luca crawled for the first time. It's nothing short of amazing to share these moments with her - even the sleepless ones.

Of course, I'm totally crying, now. ;) Happy mama tear, of course!

  3. You should check out The Moth podcast too. They often tend toward the funny, but I've heard some amazingly inspiring stuff too.

A story? I'd rather interview my grandmother who escaped Russia during WWII. She's got some good ones... :D

  5. That's a tough one. I would love to interview my father-in-law about Vietnam. He has the greatest stories about how they let the natives release these long, fat boas into the barracks to take care of the rat problem. And how he always squirmed when he saw it draped between bunks as it went searching for food.

I would also love to interview my nana about what it was like to work in the Calif. aglands, picking fruit during the Depression.
