September's 5 on 5

So it isn't the fifth, but much like the month of September, the first week of October has gotten the best of my schedule and I had to put something off for a day or two. I have been wonderfully busy. September was full of birthdays and visiting with family and friends.I have been working almost every weekend and learning the ropes of wedding photography. It's a really intense 6-8 hours, but so rewarding. I was also really lucky to work with a fantastic family on the last day of the month and had a little piece of my heart stolen by their little boy. I have been doing editorial work for the local Reno Tahoe Tonight Magazine and meeting some incredible local artists as I go. All in all I am feeling incredibly connected to my community and my craft. It's a great feeling.

So here they are, five favorites for the month of September....

An out take, but my personal favorite of a session I did with local potter, Casey Clark.

My little Buster Posey, I couldn't get him out of the batting cages on this particular night.

Britt and Matt, they got hitched and the Tahoe sunset was almost as purdy as the two of them.

An awesome set of clouds that made me stop along the ride home. I love the Sierra Valley.

Fifi and I exploring the inside of a rose. Being home with her has been incredible lately.

Now bounce on over to Adriana's blog and see what she had happening over the month of September.

A Tahoe Wedding - on Film

20130929-20130929-MIkeAlex001-3
The past two months have been filled with magical moments, love, tears and oh so much joy and promise. I have gotten to witness and capture five amazing wedding days. Each unique and special in their own way. I have had the honor of shooting with some fantastic local talent and I can't thank Jessi LeMay, Chris Werner and Corey Fox enough for trusting in my work.

On Saturday, the 28th of September, I joined up again with Corey Fox and Johnny B of Corey Fox Photography & Johnny B Films to capture a lovely wedding at Lake Tahoe.

I loaded up my new DSLR along side my Polaroid Land Camera as I prepared for the day. Shooting with the Mark ii is pretty amazing, but to be honest, I could hardly wait to snap with a few frames of film, too.

Little did I know that I was going take one of my all time film photos to date. Isn't Alex gorgeous?!

A huge congratulations to the newlyweds!

My sweet old 30D has been giving me fits. It sometimes fires, sometimes pretends to fire, but won't write to the memory card. My goal this year was to only shoot with my DSLR, but I am making an exception until I pick up my new (to me) camera on Tuesday. (I can hardly wait!!)
Here's to a beautiful week.

Hmm, somehow (and this usually happens about this time of year in 365 the project), I am off in my counting it seems. This week has been catching me off guard constantly. Photographically, I see the light and a space that I want to shoot my self portrait in, but I inadvertently forget my CF card or my camera battery- or like last night, I get weird error messages and my camera won't shoot.... I think it's the Universe telling me it's time to upgrade to a new camera body (or I just really want one and am looking for divine intervention....). Needless to say, there have been several late night photo shoots occurring. Looking for a bit of inspiration and motivation for the coming week.

Another week passes. I realize I am not here very much these days. If you want to see where I am writing and sharing images you can check out one of the three other blogs I write for. Are you a mom or a parent? Check out the Reno Moms Blog. If you photography inspiration is more your style, click on over to Mortal Muses. And if you are a local and are into what is going on in the Midtown District, I can be found every Wednesday introducing members of the community on the Creative Coalition blog.

Now, for the weekly look back at my self portrait journey.

lazy labor day

I feel like we have been going a million miles an hour all summer long. here, there, everywhere.
Which can totally be fun, but sometimes, just being around the house soaking up each others laughter is a good thing, too.
I needed the slow, and that is just what I got..
I might be really in love with light. Just saying. #shuttersisters #forever #light #love #prayersonthewind

Friday night, Andy was out of town. So the kids and I did it up right. Mac'n'cheese picinic in front of the TV watching the Lorax. Later, a dance party to Matisayhu and Mumford and Sons. Fifi did a little art and everybody slept all night. It was good stuff.

Saturday morning had a pancake start and a trip to the playground. It also may have involved a drive to In N Out, for lunch...

Later in the afternoon, A got home and we grilled some really yummy tri-tip and corn. I don't know how this was the first corn of the season, but it was so sweet and juicy, well worth the wait.

Sunday we headed over to my best friends so the guys could brew a new batch of beer.
243:366, brewing
But first, we had to fuel up with some essentials...
Banana muffins. #baking #morning #instamuse #shuttersisters  You say dough, I say nut. #shuttersisters #instamuse
banana bread muffins and donuts!

Monday was a sort of chore day, I went for a run in the morning, cleaned the house, and we organized the garage in search of our web cam and a few other missing pieces and parts for the house. I still can't believe we have 2800 sqft of stuff crammed into this 1300 sqft house and garage.
We ended the evening with some good old fashion giggle time, cultivating joy is a very, very good thing.
