Halloween Fun - 2013

 20131031-20131031-IMG_9890
The sugar comma is starting to subside. Friday morning found us all a little groggy and hungover on hi-fructose corn syrup. That didn't stop my girl, she tip-toed off into her room with a bucket of loot and locked the door behind her. Let's just say she ate enough to make her self puke... whatever was left, I tossed into the trash can.
I am a mean, mean mama... Next year, the Switch Witch will do her job.
We had a super fun Halloween night. Our neighborhood was hopping with all sorts of fun. A few of the houses were over the top crazy with decoration and goodies bags of candy. There were tons of kids and the local news truck was even doing interviews. Sometimes, suburban life is pretty okay. Andy and I both agreed that if this was the level of excitement for pumpkins, Christmas is gong to be off the charts fun and crazy this year... Hide your milk and cookies Santa, Fifi is on the loose...

All Hallow's Eve

We carved our punkins weeks ago... At least I have massive amounts of cobwebs strung about the front porch and last year's Christmas lights (that we never bothered taking down) to make up for the molding messes that are pretending to be jack-o-lanters.
Pumpkin patch time.
At any rate, the day we carved our pumpkins it was a glorious evening in campsite 14. The sun was warm and the fire pit was going. The kids had both gotten naps, unlike today, and everyone was in a pretty darn festive mood. Today, I am having to explain over and over again why we can't eat all the existing candy in our house RIGHT (friggin) NOW. And also why we can't go trick-or-treating until tomorrow.

They don't just give out candy when you knock on the doors on just any old night kiddo... yeah, I don't get it either. At least I got them both a couple of costumes so they can prance around the house swapping out costumes every few of hours...

I will keep it spooky if you promise to do the same! Happy (almost) Halloween~

Week 42.

292:365
It was a very sad day in our community on this particular Monday. I felt the need to hide in the shadows and hope for peace...

I am. I am a photographer, I am an artist. It's taken a long time to actually say and THINK those things out-loud... but I am, I am, I am - sat nam.

295:365
Reading in bed, I usually fall asleep before I get very far...

296:365
Navigating the corn maze at a local pumpkin patch. I chaperoned O's field trip and had fun meeting some of the kids in his class and their parents.

297:365
Downtown for an event, it was incredibly busy that night with UNR's homecoming parade and I wound up on the top floor of the parking garage. The view is pretty cool up there and I need to go back.

298:365
A Halloween costume, is it bad if I want to wear this thing around all the time??? It's comfy.

Sunset Moments

20131014-20131014-IMG_9117
Sunsets are a little bit like life...

They are beautiful, they are bright.

Certain sunsets and life moments call for running and flying.

Other times you sit and simply enjoy the show.

Camping Kid

My boys love camping. We hardly made it into our site before O was up this tree and testing new limits. This tree is particularly fun to scramble around on since the branches are strong and sturdy and super long.

He has a good eye and found small sticks for the fire and this monarch butterfly during the hunt. It had already met it's match, so we just studied it and kept our eyes wide for others that still had their flutter.

I think we can all say that hanging around the campfire is one of the most relaxing and fun parts about camping- as long as you aren't in the smoke's path, in which case you declare, "White rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits..." and hope the wind shifts.

40 and 41

I have been gone for a week of camping on the coast (so many photos and stories to share!).  I hadn't had time before we left to post my weekly self portrait project update. Today, you get two full weeks of photographic fun.
We had such a great time away. My mom came with us and it made for even more memory making and lots of good visiting. I am not sure what we didn't do over the week. We hit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, spent an entire day playing and getting VERY sandy at the beach, The Exploratorium, and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. We were all wonderfully exhausted and full by the time we got home Saturday night.

It is so interesting how creativity ebbs and flows. I find I am more creative at certain times of day (the morning usually)or after a great conversation. I have been figuring out the shorter days and light metering is starting to click and become more second nature. Two of these images are iPhone shots- I missed two days with the big girl camera, but made up for it in what I have been shooting on my phone.
