The Secrets that we keep

yep, there has been one really big secret that I have been keeping. I couldn't quite figure out when I felt right to tell the entire world wide web, but I think it is safe now.
We are pregnant
pregnant
This little gem was taken on the very last day of 2007- a great day to find out what the new year is going to hold. It made 2008 look so shiny and bright and full of expectation (pun totally intended). Who needs a new year's resolution when you are growing a new life deep down inside your belly. We have been waiting for this for a while now and I can hardly believe it is happening!

To answer the questions that I know I will be asked:
I am 15 weeks (or just into the 4th month).
We are due over labor day (yes, ha ha funny funny).
We aren't going to find out the sex until the little sucker pops out.
We have a few names, but those are kinda secret too- people always have opinions about names and it is hard enough to decide and agree between the two of you, ya know?
We are hiring a doula and will have the baby at the local hospital. We hope to labor at home for as long as we are comfortable and then head on down the three minute drive to the delivery room.
We are going as natural as it should be.
I really like my OBGYN thus far. She is good with the duola idea and has delievered two of my sweet friend's new ones last year- both reporting back positively.
I am feeling pretty darn good now. Although I did have about 3 weeks of nausea. It could have been worse, it could have not been- but it was there and I am glad to be out of that phase.
I am loving, I mean loveing my prenatal yoga class and am teaching regular yoga about 2x a week again which is great too.
I have had cravings for things like, Cheetos, potatoes, fish, red meat, and bland food. The only thing off that list that is something I would regularly eat and want is the fish- but none of the things are pickles and ice cream so not the "cravings" that you might hear about.
I am loving this book right now and would love to hear of any other similar books that you mama's out there could recommend.
I would also love to hear about your pregnancy and birth but ONLY if they are positive or funny stories. I don't need any more freaking out then what I can do on my own- so good stories only in the comments okay?

Feb. 29 Ultrasound

Get ready for belly shots, although right now the only thing that has gotten a lot bigger are my boobs- holly crap- seriously.
I am snuggling into my stretch maternity pants, this elastic waist business has its pluses that's for sure! Oh and could I have asked for a better style of shirt to be all the rage right now? the non-materinty materinity top is awesome-

I hope to be around these parts a bit more. I feel myself swinging back into my normal routine (morning sickness and vacation can throw a girl off her blogging/photog taking routine)

  4. natural is completely manageable, my friend.
    breath...relaxation...strength...support and encouragement.
it is amazing to feel what your body is capable of doing. intense and beautiful all at once.

one of the people i asked to be there for our birthing is my sis-in-law...she is a yoga teacher and she helped me breathe through my contractions. our doula was so encouraging, too. she made me feel safe and relaxed.

having the right peeps with me made all the difference in the world. it was truly amazing.
you have the breathing down! and yoga is so key, too.

oh my...this is going to be such a wonderful journey to watch!

have i mentioned how happy i am for you two?

    hee...

  9. oh my!
    congratulations nessie!

i had my little one at home in a waterbirth tub. it was a totally and completely empowering (and amazing) experience. i'd be happy to share more about it with you... just say the word.

and, if you haven't seen it yet, i'd recommend checking out henci goer's 'thinking woman's guide to natural childbirth'. it was an invaluable resource as i learned about pregnancy and childbirth and that which we women are built for!!

  12. Nessie~

Wonderful news! I have to be honest and say my first reaction was "she should have told me!" but I realize all the reasons you want to feel secure before sharing the news. I am very happy for you and all the wonderful things to come in your life.

  13. hi there, i just stumbled upon your blog via flickr (i am "kmdegroot" there). belated congratulations.

i just wanted to share that i had a really glorious birth experience with my daughter. we stayed at home with the doula, eating indian food and icecream, and when we got to the hospital i was 9 cm and had contractions every 2 minutes or so. i went totally natural-- i didn't even let them put a port in my arm, didn't need stitches. it was a life changing, joyful, empowering experience.

nothing to be afraid of! trust your body and make sure you have people there to advocate for you.

congrations again, from one mother to another. i too loved ina may's book and found it so useful to hear more positive experiences. let me know if there is anything i can do to help or support.
