'roid week 2013

This week has been so much fun. Seeing the most amazing instant photography in the Flickr pool has been incredibly inspiring and wonderful to view. It was also great fun to have instant photography take over on the Mortal Muse blog, did you see all the great posts we had?

Here are the images I shared in the pool. All images except for the last one were shot using my Polaroid Land Camera 103 using Fuji pull apart film. The final image was shot using my sx-70 using impossible film. Happy Film Friday!

Friday on Film

When I shoot film I always feel like the end result has warped me back in time.These two shots from the parking garage near Chinatown in San Francisco are no exception, they feel really nostalgic to me. Perhaps it's because of the black and white film, or the point of view that I was shooting from.Whatever it is, I like it.

Flowers on Film

Poppies are such a perfect subject for film. I usually shy away from photographing flowers, but these were just asking, dancing and swaying their sexy hips to be photographed.

Dressed in their delicate oranges and reds, I couldn't say no. I had to get down on my knees, lean in and practically kiss their sweet petals.

Surfs Up

People, I love the way these five frames came out of the surf spot we found during our trip. I mean really love them. Sure, technically, the exposure might not be right and the images are a little out of focus, nut you know what, it doesn't matter. I am going to blame the way these came out half of this on operator error, but partly on the lomo film. I think it is meant to give the images a grainy and a little bit funky feeling. To me, this is how I remember things from a vacation, don't you? Memories from vacationing are often dreamy, soft, not quite complete moments in time, and that is exactly what I see when I look at these.

Film Friday

One of my goals for 2013 was to shoot more film, specifically, at least 12 rolls/packs. Judging the fact that the fine folks at Gordon's Photo know me by face, name and phone number, I think I am filling the quota, and then some. I took so many photos during our camp trip with both the Yashica LM and the Polaroid 103. It felt good to have time to play with the film cameras, so good that I didn't have the DSLR out nearly as much as I normally would have on a a trip like this. I am learning so much as I challenge myself to use film. I see the light differently, I am getting how judge that light and adjust my aperture and shutter speeds accordingly. Not all my shots come out, the film gets jammed or doesn't get loaded in the first place (phantom film makes me sad), or the counter doesn't start and my frames get off, but I still like what I see for the most part.

Now where to start?
How about at the Half Moon Bay, down at the very windy beach? I used the Yashica for these two photos.

Then maybe a little bike riding down the camp ground's "alley"? (Also shot these two using the Yashica)

 

I  was able to sneak in some quiet time alone on the beach and got these two shots with the Polaroid.

I have so much to learn and figure out when it comes to metering correctly.
 

I did get a few gems that I was pleased with.
Also, I have started a tumblr blog to document my adventures in shooting film. 

I am calling it, an.a.log.

Film Friday

Inspired by the talent over at Mortal Muses earlier this week, I decided to take myself out and about on the town. I put the Minolta (35mm slr), the Yashica (120 tlr), the Polaroid (pull apart film) and the Canon (dslr) into the back pack. 

I made sure I had film in all of them and the flash card was empty, batteries were charged, that I have the gorilla pod and the remote, just in case I felt like doing a self portrait, and off I went.

Here is My One Hour Story.....

I took myself on a little walk in the fantastic and evolving  Midtown District of Reno.

Seriously, there is so many little hidden gems in this area right now it's fantastic.

 I love seeing my city grow and evolve.

And now, I want to move into the hood and feel like an urban-ite in the biggest little city that I call home.

Film Friday

A goal of mine this year is to shoot more film, specifically shoot about a roll/pack a month.

 

I am behind on this goal, but have no fear... the film bug has bitten and I am feeling my groove.

I really enjoy shooting with my Polaroid land-camera.The color film from Fuji makes me especially excited and I think the kids like it too...
