February's 5 on 5

Even though it's only two or three days shorter than other months, February moved at the speed of light! My family and I have been busy packing and preparing for our relocation to Tacoma, Washington.

    From a creative shoot.

We said several goodbyes to friends and family, and we celebrated my nephew's (6th) and my husband's (40th) birthdays.  It's been bittersweet, to say the least.

 Yummiest cupcakes for a 40th

Over the part month, I was able to take photographs, that I think will go down as some of my favorites yet during a few special client sessions and photographer meet ups.

Fun session with a friend and photog.

I shot film, digital, and iPhone images and still can't decide what my true favorite camera is, I like it that way.

    Amazing boudoir session

Please excuse any grammar or spelling errors in this post, I am writing from my iPhone as my computer is tucked away in the moving truck. One more sleep unit we hit the road north!

Now head on over to see what Adrian was up to last month.

January 5 on 5

January was both extremely fast and yet, I sort of don't remember what happened all the way back at the beginning of the month. Maybe the best way to define the month would be to call it FULL. Photographically, I had some great opportunities - I got to play with off camera flash. I hung out on a fairly big photo shoot, results from the day will befeatured in some large name magazines. I spent the day twirling an umbrella, cutting up apples, being a good assistant the photographer, models and stylist. I went on two epic and super silly photo walks with a great group of local photographers. Andy and I got a four day get away visit to Tacoma, WA. I was asked to do photos for The Nest. Owner, Tessa outfitted the boys of Vokab Kompany before their show at the Brew Haha and had me come in and photograph the chaos and fun.

Personal projects for the new year, I started two new 365 challenges and a 52 week challenge. One of these has caught on like wild fire over on Instagram, and I now have well over 60 people "Shaking it Out" with me on their iPhones and androids. I was asked to be a part of a fantastic group of photographers for a new blog project called The Hours. We are only a month deep, but we have caught the attention of the Flickr blog and Tracy over at Shutterbean.

February has a ton of promise and excitement both professionally and personally. I am looking forward to the whirlwind I know it will be. If you are local, I would LOVE to have you come see me and my work at one or both of the group art shows I am participating in this month- February 6th head down to Never Ender for the Broken Hearts Collide Group show at 6pm. The second show will be February 8th at Atelier Beauty Bar. Help them celebrate their grand opening at the Launch Party and Art Show. I am also working out the details for a workshop that involves packaging and washi tape. More news on that soon!

Now, on to my favoirte photos from January!

December 2013 - 5 on 5

December was so incredibly full. I celebrated my birthday, we had lots of family time and friends around. Christmas was sweet and simple. I finished my 365 challenge and photographed three special families. I can't express how full I felt as the year ended. It was almost a complete opposite from last year. My word, my heart, and my life is pretty amazing. I can't wait to see where things lead in 2014.
Make sure to head over to see what December 2013 looked like at Smallroots when you are done here.

November's 5 on 5

November, you kicked some serious ass. In a good way. I once again had a busy month photographing for others, but also for myself.  here are my favorites, oh and don't forget to click the link at the bottom and see what Adriana has been up to...

cousins
My niece and Fifi- they are about 5 months apart and thick as thieves. They had just gotten up from naps on Thanksgiving day and were watching 'toons at grandma and grandpa's house.

new old
I found a Polaroid Land Camera 360 at the thrift store. It's a beauty, but the batteries are hard to come by and I had to do some experimenting and burning through some film before I got it working.

Now- keep the blog roll going and head over to see what November looked like for Smallroots.

September's 5 on 5

So it isn't the fifth, but much like the month of September, the first week of October has gotten the best of my schedule and I had to put something off for a day or two. I have been wonderfully busy. September was full of birthdays and visiting with family and friends.I have been working almost every weekend and learning the ropes of wedding photography. It's a really intense 6-8 hours, but so rewarding. I was also really lucky to work with a fantastic family on the last day of the month and had a little piece of my heart stolen by their little boy. I have been doing editorial work for the local Reno Tahoe Tonight Magazine and meeting some incredible local artists as I go. All in all I am feeling incredibly connected to my community and my craft. It's a great feeling.

So here they are, five favorites for the month of September....

My little Buster Posey, I couldn't get him out of the batting cages on this particular night.

Britt and Matt, they got hitched and the Tahoe sunset was almost as purdy as the two of them.

5 on 5 | August

August was full of new adventures.
I second shot my first wedding and O started kindergarten (took the bus by himself) and Fifi and I started our new routine during the day with just the two of us. She dubbed her imaginary 'homeschool' as "The Rainbow School". We have been stuck in yucky smoke and keeping our fingers crossed for blue skies. Summer is coming to an end, that also means that we are heading into not only autumn, but the season of birthdays. I am not sure I am ready to let go of the summer, but it will slip through my fingers no matter what.
It was hard to choose five favorites for the month of August- filled up my memory cards more then once with images - but here you go with some that struck a cord with my heart today as I browsed through the past 4 weeks.

1.4.3
O's first day of Kindergarten. I know I already shared this one, but it is certainly a keeper in my mind and in my heart. He is such a sweet, smart and amazing kid.

Gardening at JoJo's house. A favorite pass time for both of them. Dirt + Water = good times.

Second shooting with the lovely and talented Jessi LeMay. I have a few other wedding images that I am itching to share, but am waiting patiently until I get the go ahead to do so.

5 on 5

This is an exciting new project I am embarking on with some amazing women. We will be posting Five of our favorite photos from the previous month on the fifth day of the month. We each might have a little description about the image and the moment, maybe a lot, maybe nothing but the images themselves. We will then pass our lovely readers (that you!) on to the next person on our list.

sounds like fun? Okay good!

Here we go....
