Tahoe- keepin' it blue

Photo taken by my favorite man, my husband.

On Saturday morning, my husband got to fly to South Lake to have breakfast. His co-worker has his pilots license. Just for fun, they took a little jaunt to the Lake.

This shot blew my mind when he uploaded it today.

Oh Tahoe, you are amazing.

My boy

O and Mama

I sometimes wonder who this little kid is running around our house. One minute he is spitting pterodactyl (I can't wait for this phase to be over), the next a screaming me-me who can rattle my ears until they ring and the very next a giggle puss who can't contain his laughter and spreads his happiness faster than snot across his face.
He is full of life, energy (oh the energy), and creativity. I love watching him in the play room, setting up intricate train track configurations or at the table with 'his artwork' (really just foam letters that he can peel and stick, peel and stick, peel and stick).
 He is also full of 'O-isms', little sayings that I find myself saying after a few days. "happy cake", "friend fries", "dip-dip toast", "oh", "um, um, yes" to name a few. His latest, "Yes. Yes, Mommy?" With the most serious of expressions on his face. He mostly answers in this way when I ask him what he is up to and he knows it is mischief.
The other day he was standing in the kitchen standing on his library stool, with only a diaper on and a mug in his hand and asked for coffee. His coffe mug sticking out at me as he looked at me in total seriousness. Had it not been almost 8pm I would have given him some, straight up with no sugar/honey or milk. Just to see the reaction. My luck he would have loved it.

Movie Star Boy

There is also a whole lot of sweet in this boy. More than once last month the teachers at school told us stories about him, one had to do with nap time and a serious 45minute case of the giggles that had the entire staff tearing up in an effort to not bust up along with him. "OPEN YOUR EYES!" one of his class mates told him as he was falling asleep for the afternoon anp... and with that he coudln't stop.
His bff recently had a hernia fixed (is that the right way of saying it?) and when he saw her at school yesterday he ran right up to her asking if she was okay and did her tummy still hurt? Then gave her a big hug before pulling her off to play kitchen. I think I only mentioned the fact that she was having her belly 'fixed' once to him. He amazes me with his memory and consideration for his friend. I am so glad they have one another, just like her mama and I had/have each other.
He can test me in the most amazing ways as well as make my heart swell and my eyes well up in joy.
This mamahood gig is a pretty amazing roller'toaster' ride. I think I will throw my hands up, feel the wind in my face and the rush of my heart in my throat and enjoy the ride!

nope, not cute.

(photos by Daddy-O)
23 months (in two days)- how is it that there are only a few more weeks before this sweet boy turns two? Every day there are tears and laughter, discoveries and set backs. Everyday we fall more and more in love with this little blue eyed boy.

The blue hat is a favorite and often stays on his head even as he falls asleep for nap or bed time. He reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson with it on and that makes me giggle.

Lots of talking, chatting and singing happening still. Lots of color identification (favorite color possibly yellow or blue?), counting to 6 (why six, I don't know), identifying letters (not the actual letters, just the fact that they are "abcd's").
Just this week climbing and scaling all sorts of things has become a total obsession. I found him on the patio table on Monday night, just hanging out sitting there. Last night as I cleaned and organized the pantry, he squeezed his way past me and started to climb the shelving unit as if it were playground equipment. The library stool that we have for washing hands in the bathroom often gets drug out for all sorts of reasons, including pulling it up to the counter as we prep food, pulling it up to the fish tank area to get a better look and lately to pull it into the pantry to get things that are "up high" an "hebby" down, especailly those little treats for Cloe-girl, oye.

We are both feeling a little ick this week. Either it's allergies (rabbit brush or the smoke from the wild fires around the area) or a little summer cold, but our noses are runny and full of 'applesauce'. I keep thinking, I started this second pregnancy with a cold and I am going to end it with one. I hope it fades soon...

Daycare (3 days a week) has been going well.  Though some days its more like peeling Velcro off my leg then simply a drop and go.  He has a great set of teachers and 'friends' at school. Most of the kids he has been with since he started and I love that. He is still spending two days a week at my mom's (JoJo) and loves Wednesdays the most because she totally humors him by puttin him in the stroller and following the garbage trucks around the neighborhood- that JoJo, she is a keeper.
Being like daddy

There has been some serious "Monkey-see-Monkey-do" going on these days- If Daddy is doing it, he wants in on the action- It makes us laugh and also makes us really aware of our actions and words. So far no slips other than "Crap" when I dropped an entire carton of eggs on the carpet the other day.

He is still loving to sit and read, though not as much as he was a few months ago (we could pass hours by reading books, hours). His favorite book these days is an old Golden Book that I found at a yard sale, illustrated by Richard Scary called "Cars and Trucks". He also loves to get all the tracks to the wooden train set out and set up elaborate railways and send the trains 'Round the corner" and 'Thru the tunnel".

Cloe-dog is his constant companion around the house. Mostly because he likes to feed her treats all day long. She is so good with him (better than we EVER imagined) and allows for eye poking and tail grabbing, as well as a good body slam every now and then. I worry her little schnauzer body isn't going to make it, but she gives him a warning growl and soft bite to when he gets a little too rowdy (Something I wish I could do when he decides that head-butting my belly is the most hysterical thing in the world).

Potty training is slowly in the works. I have been letting him run around diaper-less in the back yard this summer and he is often surprised when the stream of pee comes shooting out- looking down and then up at one of us in total surprise. He has gone #2 in the potty a few times, though usually upon my request and not his- he likes to tell me, "just farting", when I know he is working on something... If when I do set him on the potty, something happens, big hi-fives and knuckle bumps. Changing his diaper has become a total battle, but I can get him to let me do it by telling him we can put the poo in the toilet and flush it down. I don't want to force anything as far as the potty learning goes, but it sure wold be great to not be changing both him and Deuce!

I often get belly pats from my little man these days. One of the funniest things he says about my expanding baby belly, is when it peaks out from under my shirt (often), "Mama, close it". Or if he wants to see my silly looking belly button he pulls up my shirt and says "Open it Mama". He will pat it with love and say, "Baby in der" or "Hi, Baby" or "Baby come out soon". I am a little nervous about what will go down once the baby does come, but I also think he is going to be a good big bro to who ever this little one is.
We aren't sure how we will celebrate the big "TWO" since Deuce-baby's due date is only 2 days prior to O's big day, it is a tricky one on the planning front. I am hoping to get some "happy cakes" made and frozen in the next week or two so we can just grab and frost them on his special day and maybe have a few family members/close friends over to sing happy birthday to him. I would hate to not celebrate at all. Maybe Deuce will show up early and then I won't have to worry, wink.

The not so good parts? Mr O has a double ear infection. We didn't get a whole lot of sleep in the past couple of nights. This afternoon we did get in a nap and a dose of medicine and now are starting to feel a little bit more like ourselves, thank goodness!

Hope your weekend was filled with more good parts than bad (ours really was fun filled, although seeing your baby feel icky is never a good time).

Corner View: The Great Outdoors, Reno

camp
Santa Cruz, CA just a 6 hr drive west from Reno

Reno has so much to offer when it comes to the outdoors. Where do I even begin?
How about my backyard, actually more like my front yard. Just north of our house is a really great regional park. There is the best dog park in town with acres of off leash running for the doggers.

Zucco living it up this summer
There is the arboretum for the tree lovers, the adventure park and playground for the kiddos, the duck pond where you can supposedly fish and the walking path that loops the whole shebang.
In my Mother's Day post you saw all the hub-ub around the Truckee River. Another fantastic natural resource that is in the heart of the city. A little bit further from home we the world famous Lake Tahoe.
Chimney Beach, Lake Tahoe
One of the prettiest places I know.
Chimney Beach Lake Tahoe 4
"Chimney Beach" Lake Tahoe
There is skiing (downhill or Nordic) or snowboarding at any one of the resorts near Tahoe.
playing in the snow
Snowshoeing near Markleeville, CA.
As well as camping, hiking, rock climbing, and biking to boot.
Sand Mountain just outside of Fallon, NV

We are really blessed to be in a hub of sorts here in Reno- 40 minutes will get you to the snow, the lake, the desert, the middle of nowhere.

next phase...

UPDATE: Aug. 20th
just got a phone call, she's in labor.
the doula has been with her and hubby, at the house since 2am this morning.
I pulled the "Birth" angel card this morning, so I had a hunch things were happening
a baby, there is a baby on its way.

UPDATE: Aug. 18th
no baby yet....
we were hoping the full moon would do it, nope.
we were hoping the dinner filled with fresh basil and garlic (in.every.single.part.of.the.meal) would do it, nope
we were hoping the jump into Donner Lake would do it, nope.
....maybe since today is baby-daddy's birthday, that will be the trick.

more new soon (hopefully)

~~~~~~
My best friend is probably going into labor right now- I spoke to her last night and things are progressing and I can't even tell you the way I feel inside...
bff
My giggle twin might just have her babe in her arms by the end of the weekend and I will have a new niece/nephew to love and take pictures of and watch grow up. I am giddy with excitement. Jealous, in the very best way (with happiness) that she is at the place she is right now... (I am ready to be there, to meet my little one, to give birth and to be a mama)
~~~
Here is strength for you Em,
here is release for you Em,
here is opening for you Em,
here is so much love that my heart might burst for you and
here is a big huge heap of energy and breathe for you, for the remainder of this phase...
(and also a few tears, because I just can't hold it back much longer-
WE ARE GOING TO BE MAMAS!! )
I am so glad I get to share this journey with you.

The Giggle Twins aka BFFs

We are 5 months apart, that's it. I remember telling the checker at the grocery store when I was little that I had a sister, but she had different parents then me and we had different color eyes- oh yeah, she was also a lot taller than me too. We spent a ton of time together as babies and toddlers- we were dubbed the "giggle twins" by our parents. I remember sitting at the dinner table trying to eat but having uncontrollable laughter, or there was the time we got the giggles when we were at church one Sunday morning- I think we had to get up and leave, we may have even gotten her mom in on the act too. it's contagious.

When I was 5 my mom got a new job and I moved away... We didn't go to the same grade school or the same middle school, but we stayed fast friends never the less. Spending summers camping at Jackson Meadows with her family or going to day camp over summer break while my mom traveled back east to see her family. When I was 2 years shy of finishing up high school we were finally back in the same town, sticking together as friends like always. Sharing a locker and hanging out at and after football games.

We journeyed off to college to separate parts of the state- fell in love, fell out of love. Learned and lived- sometimes in touch and sometimes not so much. Seeing each other over summer break and holidays was what seemed to work best on the college student budget. I moved back home and about 2 or 3 years later so did she. She was my made of honor when I walked down the isle and just this January I got to return the favor.

Now we are on a new journey together-
giggle twins

Our babies will be much closer in age, maybe 2weeks apart if the due dates are right.

I am so happy to have her around and to bring in a new generation of the "Giggle Twins".
