149:365, Inside-out

O--playing knock-knock as Daddy mowed the front lawn last night...

while bro is occupied
Fifi--quick, while he is occupied. Mess with his stuff....

There have been some major battles going down between these two. I can't decide if I should laugh when she pulls his hair after he mows her out of the way, or reprimand her.
She can be 5 feet away, with her back turned to him and he will still scream, "Look at Fifi! She's getting to close to my stuff. She going to scrumble up my train tracks." all in the worst, whining voice he can muster.
(I have no idea where he got 'srcumble', but he uses it all the time.)

I keep telling him that his sister is here to stay, so he better get used to her being up in his business. I am an only child, so I don't really get the whole sibling rivalry thing. I would have LOVED to have someone to hangout with and build giant Lego towers with when I was little... (or would I have??)

Gah! siblings. How do you deal with the rivalry between your littles??

Corner View- Evening

day55, originally uploaded by NessieNoodle.

Taken last night, put the wide angle lens on and rigged up the tripod on the stairwell for a fun point of view. We are enjoying our little tinsel trees and lights, laughing as the boy and dog play and giggle. We are snuggling in because it is COLD out there and the snow is here to stay with more on the way this weekend.

For more corner viewing, hop on over to Jane's for the linkage.

Goodbye, Zucco

Zucco died this morning or late last night some time.
We are heart broken.
Zoo
He will be dearly missed. Zucco was a sweet soul and from the moment we got him he had our hearts. We rescued Zucco. He was a skinny and sad little dog and we weren't sure if he was just neglected or if he was sick. He had been abandoned, left in a crate along the roadside in the middle of Nevada. We found him via an online pet rescue site. I immediately called the rescue shelter and told them that we had a Schnauzer, that our neighbors had schnauzers and that we had been thinking about getting another but didn't want to go thru a breeder this time. There are just too many dogs out there that need homes.
Everyone who met Zu-buddy always said he had 'old man eyes'. He did. He had these big brown eyes that seemed to be very wisdom filled. I often wondered what his life was like before we got him, we will never know. But what I do know is what his life was like while we had him....

He was a runner, boy howdy could Zucco run.
fast
When we first brought him home he would dig out of the yard at least once a week (at least). Cloe, not one to be left out of an adventure, would follow him. But, after a particularly long and scary escape he just stopped trying to get out and realized that he had a good thing going here- food, water, a bed.

The dogs got hops

Once we got him trained enough we started to take him to the leash free park near our house. He was like a flash of silver fur up there. He would be half way across the field hardly before the clasp of the leash was unhooked. He was fast and springy and could almost keep up with the whippet that was often at the park when we were.

He was a lover.

In the mornings I would wake up to see four little paws sticking out of the covers next to Daddy-O. He would be snuggled in and happily spooning with his buddy. Zu always loved to curl up in your lap if you would let him. He was polite about it though and would wait until he was invited. He did this funny thing where he would stare at you and kind of growl-bark at you until you told him to stay on the floor or invite him up on the couch. It was pretty funny and tripped out company when he did it. He also knew how to ask for his food, "arrr-rowrowrow", speaking like Daddy-O had taught him.

He was good with the baby, although recently had started to not be sure about the crawling and exuberant patting that he was getting from Mr. O, he would just hang out and let him play drums on his belly.

One of his best attributes though was that he put up with Cloe-girl and all her alpha-dog ways. He was patient and sweet. When they got going in the back yard or doing loops around the house race track style, he knew how to go just fast enough to keep her interested and playing even though he was much faster then her (such a gentleman). I will miss those crazy bark fest chases they would have around the kitchen into the living room around the front landing, into the dinning room and back into the kitchen- skidding out as they hit the linoleum floors.

I am going to miss this dog. I hope we gave him a good life while he was with us But most of all I hope he didn't suffer too much yesterday before he passed. We really had no idea that he was that sick. He had been chasing birds in the back yard at noon and was gone when we got up this morning.

fast

fast

hope your weekend doesn't go by to fast.
I will be subbing for a prenatal yoga class, attending a first birthday party, maybe attending a 'welcome summer party', crafting with new friends, bisseling my carpets, snuggling with my boys, and hopefully catching a nap or two somewhere in between.

Be well friends,
V

ahh, Christmas

(that is a sigh of relief, not one of concern)

Lester the Grinch
Only a few more hours of work then I get to pick up my boy and enjoy 4 days at home with him and my other favorite guy, Daddy-O.

I made chocolate chip cookies and peppermint bark last night. Now I am trying to decide if I should distribute them to the neighbors or savor them around the house! (so bad, I know!)

Christmas Cloe

The packages are all wrapped (at least the ones I got for Daddy-O, O and JoJo. Who knows when Daddy-O is going to get to wrapping all those mysterious boxes that have been getting dropped off by Fed-Ex, UPS and USPS).

We are hoping for snow, and perhaps a bit of snowshoe-ing in the park tomorrow. JoJo is coming over in the morning for breakfast and presents. I am going to make a beef stew in the crock pot and just enjoy being in my PJs for as long as possible.
I promise to post a few pictures from our day.

alert
I hope you all have something nice planned for yourselves. Enjoy the day.
A very MERRY to all of you out there!!

let's see now....

Family, lots of family. I feel rejuvenated and totally flustered all at once.
Tons of good food
Parts Of A Good Sandwich
and time spent in the newly completed back yard. It sure did turn out nice and I know we will get the use out of it that we were hoping for.
Enjoying the new patio

our happy faces

Trips to the park to let the dogs run and to get us outside to enjoy the fantastic evenings we have been having these days.

The dogs got hops

A movie, cleaning and making things messy again in the kitchen (then more cleaning). Wandering around new thrift store (I am searching for something like this to take to the hospital with me- I should just breakdown and order it from etsy since that seems to be where I can most easily find one. And, let's face it, I don't have that much longer to search for the perfect bag, right?).

I got my hair cut and am still trying to figure out if I like it or not. I think I need a new hat to wear, one of those cute bucket hats ya know? Just for the days when I feel like I don't really like it... I have been getting my camera out again (could be the new camera strap I got in the mail a week ago that is motivating me to do so). Today there is a list of things to do since we played all day yesterday. Have a fantastic week, it will be quite around here for the next few days.

Cheers!

snow man

snowman

It rained and rained and rained on Friday- we got a quarter of our annual rainfall in just about 12 hours. it was amazing and wet. Later on in the afternoon, maybe around 5, it started to snow. Huge, fluffy flakes that drift down and settle into the wet ground- creating a base for the others who would fall after them.
I had a pedicure appointment on Friday afternoon with my mom and by the time we were done and in our silly flip flops there was about 2 inches of cold, white snow to step into as we hurried to my car.
Once I got home I settled in with some tomato/red pepper soup and a quesadilla. I read some of my new Yoga Journal magazine and then watched as the kids across the street tossed snowballs at each other and whooped it up outside. The street looking much lighter than normal with the reflection of the snow was lit up with the remaining Christmas lights in the neighborhood. I love the way sounds get muffled and also how the are amplified when it snows.
Yesterday morning it was bright and sunny when we woke up. We threw the dogs in the backyard and we headed out front with the rest of the street to clear our driveways and sidewalks. That is when we found the huge slumping snowman at the end of the cul-de-sac.
Later that day we took out our snowshoes, my mom put on her cross country skis and we hooked up the dogs to the leash to head over to the park. It was beautiful- foggy snowy and quiet up there. I wished I had brought my camera, but it was still snowing and I was worried I would have ruined it with the moisture.
As we plodded along on our shoes the dogs hopped in and out of the snow, looking more like seals or dolphins in the ocean than schnauzers. They had a blast, but by the time we made it to the other side of the park they were tired and so full of snow they could hardly walk anymore.
snowy schnauzer

We headed home and defrosted the dogs.We took care of a few things around the house and then headed out to Andy's sister's house for dinner. A perfect way to end such a lovely day.

We are getting things pulled together for our trip- only 4 more days until we take off for Maui. I am debating a knitting project for the plane. I have 2 books that I am excited to start (Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and Three Cups of Tea). I have been spinning ideas around for a speech to say at the wedding- I am so excited for the trip and to be there with friends for the first half of the stay will be really fun. I am also looking forward to lazy days on the beach with sand in my toes and salty air on my face.

Be well friends!

faint memory

At The Boardwalk

We were planning on heading out this weekend, but a few things have surfaced and it has been decided that staying home is probably a much better option (perhaps not as fun as hanging out on the beach in our tents, but in order to stay sane...)
Our plates have been too full this week with long days at the office and I feel the effects settling into my ear/throat.
The dogs escaped again this morning for about 3 hours... thank god there are good people in this world who captured them about 2 miles north of our home and called us. I think an invisible fence and shock collars might be the answer...*sigh* it sounds so inhumane.
I so don't want to go that route, but what is a gal supposed to do when her dogs are like Houdini? one minute they are out back romping around and the next minute*poof, they are gone*
Anyone else have this problem- solutions?

Other than feeling totally over extended once again, this week has been good.
Teaching has been fulfilling and family is in town so we have meals with lively conversation in our future.
Here's to a three day weekend in Nevada.
